FOURTH CLASS

DATE: Friday, April 5th, 2013
OBJECTIVE: By the end of the lesson SWBAT introduce famous people using the vocabulary, actor, model, singer, cartoon character, (sports) player, and TV star (others might be included as well) using the grammar structure this is… he is /he`s…she`s/ she is.

The fourth class was designed to teach vocabulary. The students had to be able to recognize the different professions. I was a little bit eager. Maybe the vacation gap influenced the performance in both, students and I.  The second part of the class had a variety of activities. Most of them were kinesthetic. I counted with the same quantity of students. I t was a good number for working in groups. However, they were plenty of them who where new in the class. These people did not show enough management of the topics. The schema was not opened at the time the practice started.  Some others arrived some minutes before my intervention started. I asked them to count one and two with the aim to divide the class. As soon as they were in groups I displayed the handout with scramble words. It was a challenge for some of them, however for some other it was not that complicated.

ACTIVITY 1. WRITING –SPEAKING.

INSTRUCTIONS: PUT THE FOLLOWING WORDS IN ORDER.

1-TORAC=                              5- SART- VT=

4-DELMO=                             8-TOONCAR-TERCHARAC=

ACTIVITY 2
Tic tack toe was designed to be the following activity. I was decided like to follow the stream of the class. When I was designing the class, I took into account the possible famous people that students could know. Previously, they were in touch with the vocabulary. I expected they all had an approach with it. In this opportunity, they had to identify the image, with the name that was presented beforehand. Some of the accurately identify the professions. For some other students was more challenging. During the activity, I realized that some students were did not manage the vocabulary. Originally, I had decided to draw question marks in specific places with the idea to make them to answer the questions. However, at the time I did it, no one of them selected the questions in the tic tack toe square.

In the third stage the students had to show whether they had got the information or not. It was a filling blanks activity.  They the classmate supports because it was an activity developed in pairs. Later, they had to compare with the classmate. After that they shared the answer aloud. Some of them did it perfectly.  Some others struggled at the time they did the activity. As a matter a fact, I think that I could have provided better and clearer instructions. I also consider that I am able to manage and the class. I also want to add that I consider myself capable to improve more and more in the teaching field. If I could change something, I would prevent the possible incidents we have  at the time each activity is in process.

  1. Hello Carlos! You have mentioned that you could have provided better and clear instructions in to your students; I have proved that the key to make the activities we have planned to our students is to give them clear instructions. If after giving clear instructions students do not get want we want them to do, what else can we do? In my opinion, the best way to get a successful activity is by modeling it. I want to congratulate you because you say that you are capable to manage the class due to the fact that sometimes it can be very difficult depends of the type of the students we have in our classes.

  2. Hey Carlos! I like the way you plan the activities. Kinesthetic is really important when teaching, we sometimes tend to forget to add this which can make a boring class. The activity Nº 2 was interesting. Think about Ss previous knowledge is a hint to know what can we add to activities to help them activate shemata but at the same time to one step beyond +1 to rich Ss capacity and knowledge.
